Meet the Team

Sharon Brown, Director

Sharon has spent over 25 years working across the youth policy and youth homelessness agendas with local authorities, the Third Sector and importantly,  young people; encompassing project management, operational planning, strategic leadership and management, policy implementation and research.  Her previous roles have included Youth Adviser at Government Office North East, consultant on Targeted Youth Support with the Training and Development Agency, Development Lead for Foyer Federation in the North East and Yorkshire and Humber.

She is the founding member of the North East Homelessness Think Tank, a member of the North East Child Poverty Commission and North East Talent Match Programme Board and a Trustee at Streetwise North.

Victoria Clark, Administrator Fundraiser

Victoria joined YHNE in October 2017. Victoria has a wealth of knowledge and experience in all voluntary sector governance and fundraising having worked in the sector for a long time. Victoria has excellent contacts with the funding sector and has previously managed grant giving schemes therefore having first hand experience of what funders want and expect.

“This is the first time for me working for a regional charity so it will be a challenge but I’m really excited to be part of such an important organisation in the fight against homelessness in the North East”

Jennie Clark, Youth Engagement Training Officer

Jennie has over 10 years experience working and volunteering in a range of roles in the public and charitable sector. After studying her degree in counselling  a Masters in Criminology and Criminal Justice at Northumbria University Jennie spent time working with a private organisation in a residential children’s home and took the lead role in the leaving care team. Jennie then spent the next 9 years in a Senior Management role working for a local charity supporting families affected by substance misuse.

“I am really looking forward to working with a local charity in an outreach role, and am hoping to utilise all of my skills to engage partners, raise awareness and develop really interesting and beneficial pieces of work with young people.”


Kevin Gonzalez, Communications Officer and Administrator

Kevin is Communications Officer and Administrator at YHNE. He supports YHNE’s website and social media channels and promotes its projects to help young homeless people in the North East.  In August 2018, Kevin successfully finished his master’s degree in Public Relations and Communication at Newcastle University. Before moving to the UK three years ago, Kevin studied Journalism and Communication in Spain where he worked as professional journalist and collaborator for several regional and local medias online and offline.

“I believe that working for YHNE will be a great opportunity to put into practise all the skills and experience that I have got within the communication sector and help the charity to raise awareness about the issues that young homeless people are facing in the North East and support those who are at risk of homelessness”



Neil Wilkinson, Software Engineer

Neil Wilkinson is a highly experienced software engineer specialising in native Android and iOS app development. He has developed more than 20 apps, many featured by Google and Apple, as well as an App Store #1. Neil has worked for BT, Calrec Audio, and TopHatch. He was originally introduced to Youth Homeless North East through Sage and has continued working with us as his career moved to freelancing.

Kieran Cutting, Doctoral Researcher

Kieran is a Doctoral Researcher at Open Lab, Newcastle University and oversees more experimental projects for YHNE, particularly those that use digital technologies. Kieran has extensive experience in working with community projects and third-sector organisations, having worked in the past as a researcher for Neighbourhood Planning projects, a campaign designer for activist projects, and a social media manager for the Labour Party during the 2017 election.

Since February 2018, Kieran has been designing and developing a digital peer support system for young people with experience of homelessness and YHNE. In addition to this, he is currently building strategic relationships for YHNE across other local and national charities in an attempt to link up the gaps in the sector and enhance overall provision for young people living through precarity.

Maggie Broxup, Marketing and Communications

Since graduating from Newcastle University in 2017, Maddie has worked within the field of marketing and communications. She currently works at a product and service design agency where she is responsible for all internal and external communications, event and sponsorship management and the creation of content via the company website and social channels.

It was in Maddie’s previous role where she crossed paths with YHNE Director, Sharon, and was shown all the fantastic work that YHNE do for young people and knew she wanted to get involved. Maddie will be working closely with Andrew and Kevin as a volunteer in her spare time.

Andrew Robson, Data Specialist

Andrew is a Data Specialist working in Newcastle. He interprets data and uses statistics to help tell stories which shed light on important issues in the North-East.
Andrew graduated from Newcastle University with a Masters degree in Statistics and has previously worked on projects for The Prince’s Trust and Hospice UK to help them make sense of their local needs through data analysis. He is also an active runner with GoodGym Newcastle. They run every week to help out with tasks such as cleaning, gardening and furniture building for North East based charities such as Changing Lives, Smart Works and The Bike Garden.

Zinnia, Youth Champion

I’m Zinnia, I’m 23 years old and I live in Sunderland. I’m a painter and decorator for the North East Autism Society. I find it is important for young people to have a voice. I also want to help young people and show them that no matter what, you can achieve your goals/dream. Please take 5 minutes to read my story: Zinnia’s Story.
