North East Homeless Think Tank Charter

Alex Cunningham -Labour MP for Stockton North .

“I have worked with a number of partners on the issue of homelessness particularly as it relates to young people who have suffered more than most in recent years.  I will continue the work to increase housing provision for young people, particularly the most vulnerable, and campaign with them for safer solutions including ending once and for all bed and breakfast arrangements for them.”

Chi Onwurah - Labour - Newcastle Central

I know you are aware that I feel passionately about housing in the North East. During my five years representing Newcastle Central in Parliament, housing has consistently been the most common issue that people have raised with me or come to me for help with. For that reason, it has been a priority for me and I have a long running campaign for affordable housing in Newcastle.

Whilst I do not sign individual manifestos or pledges, I wanted to respond to the points in your homelessness manifesto so you are in no doubt that I support your aims.

I am always in favour of better reporting and data and if elected will work with colleagues to ensure that homelessness statistics record the entire picture. I also support providing for the basic housing needs of all vulnerable people in our communities – nobody in the sixth largest economy in the world should be forced into homelessness.

Everyone should be able to live in a secure home.

I wish you the best of luck in your efforts to eradicate homelessness in the north east.
